COOKIE TABLE IN A BOX. . .
WHEN TWO BECOME YINZ.

The cookie table is as much a part of Pittsburgh as the Stillers, fries on your Sammich, and Heinz ketchup. Those not from here may be confused. Why would you need cookies? At a wedding, you eat cake!

Well, in Pittsburgh, we do both.

It is believed that this tradition started during the Great Depression when many families could not afford a wedding cake. instead substituting homemade cookies baked by the mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, cousins and friends of the bride and groom. The cookie table truly became a gift of love.

The tradition has long been practiced by various cultures that have immigrated to Pittsburgh over the decades, including Italian, German, Polish, Irish, Slovak and others. That variety is reflected in our box of cookies. Don't be afraid to try one. It may just become your new favorite!

Remember, in Pittsburgh, people don’t ask, “how was the wedding?” ... they ask, “how were the cookies?”

That's why Pittsburgh comedian Jim Krenn, radio personality Larry Richert, and cartoonist Rob Rogers created Cookie Table In A Box as a way to celebrate one of our region's best traditions. You can find Cookie Table In A Box in the bakery at Pittsburgh-area Giant Eagle and Market District stores.
